Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. is pleased to announce the line-up of Craft Breweries and Wineries that will be featured during this year’s festival. With the goal of celebrating Western North Carolina culture, these beverage companies represent some of the best regional brewers and vintners. Craft Brewers include Skull Camp Brewing of Elkin, NC, Lost Province Brewing of Boone, NC and Granite Falls Brewing of Granite Falls, NC. Featured Wineries include Jones Von Drehle of Thurmond, NC, Rag Apple Lassie of Boonville, NC, Brushy Mountain Winery of Elkin, NC and Shull Camp Winery of Elkin, NC. Additionally, some of Wilkes County’s Distillers will be on hand to tell their stories of moonshining. Wilkes, known as the moonshine capital of the world is now home to three distilleries that continue the rich heritage of the past. Call Family Distillers and Copper Barrel Distillery bring the traditions of the past to Carolina in the Fall™ Festival. NASCAR finds its’ roots in the foothills of North Carolina as fast cars and revenuers raced around the roads of Wilkes County. Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc has announced the addition of a new Dance Stage to their festival. The dance stage will be known as the Great State Dance Stage will be located inside the Great State Auction Company building. This stage will provide a very intimate setting for the musicians and the audience alike. This venue will be on a first come first serve basis and will require the festival wrist band for entrance. Currently, there a two Contra Dance sessions scheduled (with others to be added) and two clogging sessions. Instruction will be given to those that want to try their skills at these regional dances. “Our goal for Carolina in the Fall™ is to create a true downtown festival that incorporates the buildings and the beauty of Historic Downtown Wilkesboro.” “We see lots of opportunities to include our downtown merchants in the festival” says festival director Michelle Isom. “We welcome the news that the festival will expand the number of stages and include more of our downtown assets. With the goal of celebrating “New Carolina Music”, Humming House brings its’ modern vision to Americana music. They join The Kruger Brothers, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Balsam Range and The Secret Sisters and many others for the inaugural presentation of Carolina in the Fall™ in downtown Wilkesboro. The spotlight on Nashville, with its musical values and timeless traditions, is currently bright. And no band embodies what’s right about 21st century Nashville more completely than the quintet known as Humming House. It’s the way they weave together threads of Music City’s folk, soul, and bluegrass legacies. It’s in the inspirational and revealing songwriting. Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. has announced that Artist Workshops will be held in the Great State Auction Building located on Main Street in Wilkesboro. Musicians from the bands performing at the festival will lend their time and talents to help others grow their knowledge and skill in these fun and relaxing workshops. “While we are gathering at Carolina in the Fall™ to celebrate our music heritage and culture, we also want to help our fellow musicians develop their skills and love for the music of our region. We look forward to spending this time with old friends and also making lots of new ones as well during these workshops”, says Uwe Kruger of the Kruger Brothers. The workshops are included in the festival entry fee. Space is limited to 250 participants per session and will be on a first come, first serve basis. These 50 minute sessions will allow festival participants to interact with the artists as they discuss all aspects of music. Sessions will be between 11 AM and 5 PM both days of the festival beginning on the hour. Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications will host Contra Dances both days of the street festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. The Kruger Brothers with the Kontras Quartet will be joined by Bob Kogut on the fiddle and by Roberta Kogut, who will be the caller. Roberta will provide all of the basic instruction needed for the dance. No partner is needed and no experience is required. Roberta likes to say, “If you can walk, you can Contra Dance!”. Contra dance refers to a folk dance that is similar to square dance, except instead of squares, the couples dance in a line. This type dance has its’ roots in Appalachia and is often referred to as Appalachian Folk Dance. The typical music for contra dancing is Irish, Scottish, old-time and French-Canadian tunes. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of figures in the dance before the music starts. The dance consists of 6-12 figures which are repeated as the couple progresses up and down the line.
