Wilkesboro, NC – September 19, 2016 ––The second annual Carolina In The Fall Music and Food Festival presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. is this Friday and Saturday, September 23rd and 24th. The Festival continues its’ tradition of celebrating the heritage of western North Carolina through music, food and beverage. Over 100 musicians, chefs, vintners and craft beer brewers from the region will gather on Main Street in Wilkesboro, NC to engage audiences with the best of their craft. “We have a big change from last year, the Festival grounds are open to the public with no admission charge. Folks can enjoy the Food trucks and shop at the Vendor mall without having to purchase a wristband”, said Dale Isom, Festival Organizer. “Those wishing to take in the music will have to purchase a wristband to enter the music venues.” Wilkes County’s own The Kruger Brothers will be the Festival hosts again and welcome some of North Carolina’s best Folk/ Roots music bands. They will be joined by some of our nation’s best bands from other regions that tip their hats to the rich musical history of Wilkes, the Heart of American Folk Music™. Wilkesboro, NC – September 1, 2016 ––Carolina In The Fall™ Music and Food Festival presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. received one of five nominations from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) for 2015 Event of the Year Momentum Award. “We certainly never expected to receive a nomination and are honored to be considered alongside some of the nation’s best festivals”, said Dale Isom, Festival Organizer. “This will inspire us to work even harder to make Carolina in the Fall Music and Food Festival an event that all of Wilkes can be very proud of.” The IBMA is the trade association that connects and educates bluegrass professionals, empowers the bluegrass community, and encourages worldwide appreciation of bluegrass music of yesterday, today and tomorrow. The IBMA Awards Ceremony Show will take place on September 29, 2016 in Raleigh, NC. The IBMA Event of the Year Award recognizes events (festivals, concerts, other live performance productions) for their outstanding accomplishment and service to bluegrass music in the field of event production. The event must have taken place during the current IBMA Award eligibility period. The recipients will be judged by the committee for their overall contributions to the field of event production, professionalism and quality of presentation, work furthering bluegrass in their area of service and demonstrated ability to foster bluegrass music's image. Carolina in the Fall Music and Food Festival presented by Wilkes Communications will host Contra Dances both days of the street festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. The Kruger Brothers will be joined by Bob Kogut on the fiddle and by Roberta Kogut, who will be the caller. Roberta will provide all of the basic instruction needed for the dance. No partner is needed and no experience is required. Roberta likes to say, “If you can walk, you can Contra Dance!”. Contra dance refers to a folk dance that is similar to square dance, except instead of squares, the couples dance in a line. This type dance has its’ roots in Appalachia and is often referred to as Appalachian Folk Dance. The typical music for contra dancing is Irish, Scottish, old-time and French-Canadian tunes. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of figures in the dance before the music starts. The dance consists of 6-12 figures which are repeated as the couple progresses up and down the line. Additionally, Clogging classes will be held after the Clogging performance by the High Country Cloggers. Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe, or both against a floor or each other to create audible rhythms, usually to the downbeat with the heel keeping the rhythm. The Food Trucks will be competing in the Food Truck Championship that awards a First Prize of $500.00, Championship trophy and Truck sticker. Additionally, trucks will be competing for the Best Themed Truck trophy. This year’s competition brings a diverse menu and the best of the best of western North Carolina’s Food Trucks. The Trucks scheduled to serve festival attendees this year are: 1. Poor Man BBQ and More… Pork, Chicken and sides; 2. PorterHouse Burger Truck (winner of last years Grand Prize)… Burgers and Fries; 3. Baconessence… Sandwiches, Melts with Bacon; 4. King Queen Haitian Cuisine… Haitian Chicken/Pork/Fish and sides; 5.
