Carolina in the Fall™ to host 1st Annual Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run to benefit American Cancer Society

Carolina in the Fall™ Music and Food Festival presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. announced today that they will be hosting the 1st Annual Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run to benefit the American Cancer Society. Daniel Isom, of Heart of Folk, LLC and one of the Festival Organizers will serve as the Trail Run Chairman. “Carolina in the Fall is very thankful to be the host for the Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run. The festival is the wonderful setting for an event that focuses on helping those who are dealing with this disease and those that are working to find a cure”, said Daniel. “It is a perfect fit for our festival mission. Our Trail Run will wear the name of Chad Lovette to remember and honor him and his love for this region’s music.” Chad Lovette, a native of Wilkes County passed away on July 9, 2016 after an extended battle with brain cancer. Chad was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He was a singer/songwriter and most enjoyed playing music with his band, Green House, and with his brother. His passions were traveling far and wide, hiking, surfing, camping and living large with his family and friends. Chad played in the inaugural Carolina in the Fall Festival in downtown Wilkesboro with his brother Shay’s band, Brushy Rides. Carolina in the Fall™ announces Contra Dances

Back by popular demand, Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications will host Contra Dances both days of the street festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. The Kruger Brothers will be joined by Bob Kogut on the fiddle and by Roberta Kogut, who will be the caller. Roberta will provide all of the basic instruction needed for the dance. No partner is needed and no experience is required. Roberta likes to say, “If you can walk, you can Contra Dance!”. Contra dance refers to a folk dance that is similar to square dance, except instead of squares, the couples dance in a line. This type of dance has its’ roots in Appalachia and is often referred to as Appalachian Folk Dance. The typical music for contra dancing is Irish, Scottish, old-time and French-Canadian tunes. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of figures in the dance before the music starts. The dance consists of 6-12 figures which are repeated as the couple progresses up and down the line. Additionally, Clogging classes will be held after the Clogging performance by the High Country Cloggers. Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe, or both against a floor or each other to create audible rhythms, usually to the downbeat with the heel keeping the rhythm. Carolina in the Fall™ seeks festival volunteers

Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. is seeking volunteers for the music and food festival to be held in Wilkesboro on September 23rd and 24th. Volunteers are needed for many functions during the festival and will work four hour shifts. Each person will receive a one day pass for the day of their work. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Michelle Isom at 336-990-0747 or go by their offices at 1305 South Collegiate Drive in Wilkesboro. Application Forms are available at the office or online at www.carolinainthefall.org. All volunteers will be selected by August 28th, so application needs to be made as soon as possible. The second annual Carolina in the Fall™ Music and Food Festival takes place this year in Downtown Wilkesboro on September 23rd and 24th. Gates will open for the festival each day at 10 A.M. with music beginning at 11 A.M. and will continue until 10 P.M. in the evening. Each evening of the festival, VIP ticket holders will be treated to the Carolina Jam™ at the Yadkin Valley Event Center at the Wilkesboro Holiday Inn Express. This once in a lifetime band jam experience is scheduled to begin each evening at 11:00 and last for two hours. Included in the Festival is the 2nd Annual Carolina in the Fall Food Truck Championship. Wilkesboro, NC – February 29, 2016 ––The second annual Carolina In The Fall™ Music and Food Festival presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. continues its’ tradition of celebrating the heritage of western North Carolina through music, food and beverage. On September 23rd and 24th, 2016, over 100 musicians, chefs, vintners and craft beer brewers from the region will gather on Main Street in Wilkesboro, NC to engage audiences with the best of their craft. Wilkes County’s own The Kruger Brothers will be the Festival hosts again and welcome some of North Carolina’s best Folk/ Roots music bands. They will be joined by bands from other regions that tip their hats to the rich musical history of Wilkes, the Heart of American Folk Music™. This year’s line-up include previously announced headliners The Kruger Brothers, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Steel Wheels and Symphony of the Mountains. Jens Kruger, of The Kruger Brothers and one of the top banjo players in the world will serve as the host for the championships. “I am thrilled to host the banjo championship and I look forward to welcoming many of the nation’s top pickers as they compete to hold the annual title. Carolina in the Fall is the perfect setting for the North Carolina Banjo Championship and we look forward to many years of great banjo competition”, said Jens.
