Carolina in the Fall™ Music and Food Festival presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. announced today that they will be hosting the 1st Annual Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run to benefit the American Cancer Society. Daniel Isom, of Heart of Folk, LLC and one of the Festival Organizers will serve as the Trail Run Chairman. “Carolina in the Fall is very thankful to be the host for the Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run. The festival is the wonderful setting for an event that focuses on helping those who are dealing with this disease and those that are working to find a cure”, said Daniel. “It is a perfect fit for our festival mission. Our Trail Run will wear the name of Chad Lovette to remember and honor him and his love for this region’s music.” Chad Lovette, a native of Wilkes County passed away on July 9, 2016 after an extended battle with brain cancer. Chad was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He was a singer/songwriter and most enjoyed playing music with his band, Green House, and with his brother. His passions were traveling far and wide, hiking, surfing, camping and living large with his family and friends. Back by popular demand, Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications will host Contra Dances both days of the street festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. The Kruger Brothers will be joined by Bob Kogut on the fiddle and by Roberta Kogut, who will be the caller. Roberta will provide all of the basic instruction needed for the dance. No partner is needed and no experience is required. Roberta likes to say, “If you can walk, you can Contra Dance!”. Contra dance refers to a folk dance that is similar to square dance, except instead of squares, the couples dance in a line. This type of dance has its’ roots in Appalachia and is often referred to as Appalachian Folk Dance. The typical music for contra dancing is Irish, Scottish, old-time and French-Canadian tunes. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of figures in the dance before the music starts. The dance consists of 6-12 figures which are repeated as the couple progresses up and down the line. Additionally, Clogging classes will be held after the Clogging performance by the High Country Cloggers. Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe, or both against a floor or each other to create audible rhythms, usually to the downbeat with the heel keeping the rhythm. Carolina in the Fall™ presented by Wilkes Communications, Inc. is seeking volunteers for the music and food festival to be held in Wilkesboro on September 23rd and 24th. Volunteers are needed for many functions during the festival and will work four hour shifts. Each person will receive a one day pass for the day of their work. Gates will open for the festival each day at 10 A.M. with music beginning at 11 A.M. and will continue until 10 P.M. in the evening. Each evening of the festival, VIP ticket holders will be treated to the Carolina Jam™ at the Yadkin Valley Event Center at the Wilkesboro Holiday Inn Express. This once in a lifetime band jam experience is scheduled to begin each evening at 11:00 and last for two hours. Jens Kruger, of The Kruger Brothers and one of the top banjo players in the world will serve as the host for the championships. “I am thrilled to host the banjo championship and I look forward to welcoming many of the nation’s top pickers as they compete to hold the annual title. Carolina in the Fall is the perfect setting for the North Carolina Banjo Championship and we look forward to many years of great banjo competition”, said Jens.
